This Knowledge Base (KB) article is intended for PCs
which are not intended to have LonWorks software on it like LonMaker,
Commissioning Tool, LNS Server, OpenLNS Server, or IzoT Net Server.
If you do intend to have LonWorks software on this PC then ignore the remainder of this KB and please see KB1051.
The IzoT Router defaults to using dynamic IP address. Follow
the instruction below to determine the IzoT Router IP address on a PC
that doesn’t have any LonWorks software currently installed.
Instructions:
1. Enable .NET Framework
a. For Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 you need to manually install .NET
Framework 3.5 through the Windows Control Panel Program and Features
“Turn windows features on or off”.
b. For older
Windows Operating Systems like XP, .NET Framework 3.5 is installed
automatically by the OpenLDV 5 installer if needed.
2. Download OpenLDV 5 and install it using the default directory. For 64 bit Windows this is “C:\Program Files (x86)\LonWorks\bin”
http://www.echelon.com/software-downloads?ele=153-0411-01B
3. Download OpenLDV 5 U1 and unzip the files into “C:\Program Files (x86)\LonWorks\bin”
http://downloads.echelon.com/support/downloads/software/networkinterfaces/OpenLDV_500_U1_ReadMe.htm
http://downloads.echelon.com/support/downloads/software/networkinterfaces/OpenLDV_500u1.zip
4. Download NodeUtil 3.23, and using windows explorer (Window key + E) copy it to “C:\Program Files (x86)\LonWorks\bin”. Rename the file to “NodeUtil”
http://www.echelon.com/software-downloads?ele=153-0373-01B
5. Create the LonTalk/IP Network Interface
a. Using Windows Explorer (Window key + E) go to “C:\Program Files (x86)\LonWorks\bin” and double click “LonTalkIpInterfaces“
b. Type a name such as "LonTalkIP" in the "LonTalk/IP Interfaces" field. Don’t use the loopback interface. The LonTalk/IP interface name will be the name you supply when specifying an interface to NodeUtil.
c. Select "Local Area Connection" as an IP network interface for this LonTalk/IP interface to use in the "IP Interface" box.
d. Click "Create"
e. Close the LonTalk/IP Interfaces application.
6. Find the IP address of the IzoT Router
a. Open a DOS command prompt, by clicking the Windows Start button, type cmd in the search box, and then press the Enter key.
b. At the command prompt, type NodeUtil –d<interfaceName>. Enclose the interface name (the name you defined in step 5.b above) in quotes if there are any spaces in the name. For example:
NodeUtil –dLonTalkIP
c. Press the Service/Connect button on your IzoT Router. NodeUtil displays a message similar to the
following:
Received an ID message from device 1
d. Type G to go to a device, type 1 to go to device 1, and then press the Enter key.
e. Type S to see the IzoT Router IP address. Typing a S reports the IzoT Router device status and statistics. The last line of the S response displays the IzoT Router’s IP address.
f. Type N to preserve the router’s statistics. You can type Y instead to reset the router’s statistics counters.
g. Type E to exit the device menu.
h. Type E to exit NodeUtil.
i. Close the command prompt.
