How to Update a U60/U70 Network Interface Image (KB1443)

The U60/U70 network interface system image can be updated using Open LDV ( OpenLDV Network Driver - LON Portal - EnOcean Edge Documentation and Software Downloads Portal (atlassian.net) ) and nodeutil ( NodeUtil and NodeLoad - LON Portal - EnOcean Edge Documentation and Software Downloads Portal (atlassian.net) ).

This requires you to disconnect the U60/U70 from the SmartServer.

These instruction requires to use two USB ports on your PC. In addition to the U60/U70 that you will be updating, you will need a second U60/U70 network interface to be the loader access network interface.  The U60/U70 receiving the update is referred to as the target  network interface. You will be opening two command prompts on your PC, one for each network interface.

To open a command prompt type "cmd" in the Windows search bar.

Instructions:

1.  With no U60/U70 network interfaces connected to your PC, install OpenLDV.
   - If a U60/U70 was plugged then unplug them before installing OpenLDV.
   - If you mistakenly installed OpenLDV with a U60/U70 plugged in then unplug the U60/U70, use the Windows control panel to uninstall OpenLDV and then re-install OpenLDV.

2.  Download nodetuil.  You will need to explicitly tell your browser to keep and accept this zip file.  Unzip the contents of the download to: C:\Programs and Files (x86)\lonworks\bin.

3.  Connect the two U60s on a common FT-10 channel (or an U10 and an U60), or two U70s on a common power channel (or an U20 and an U70).
  - U60: The loader interface could be an U10,  or another U60.
  - U70: The loader interface could be another U70 or a PL U20 adapter.
You need a LON physical connection between the loader and target interfaces.

4.  Plug in the loader network interface to your PC USB port.  Use the Control Pannel->Hardware and Sound->Lonworks Interfaces applet to determine
the lon[x] interface name.  These instructions will assume this interface appears as lon1.

5.  Plug in the target network interface to your PC USB port and note the lon[x] name assigned to the target network interface.  These instructions assume the target network interface appears as lon2.

6.  Target command prompt: Open a windows command box type: nodeutil -b -dlon2.  The -b option is key essential to support image loading to the target  network interface  .

7.  Loader command prompt : Open a window command box and type: nodeutil -s -j -dlon1.  This is the loader instance.

8.   Target command prompt  : In nodeutil, type p.  This will send a service message on the Lon media that will be received by the loader instance of nodeutil.

9.  Loader command prompt  : In nodeutil, type g followed by 1 to go to the target network interface  .

10.  Loader command prompt  : In nodeutil, type y, and provide a path to the .ndl image provided by the CS team.  Answer no to the prompt about loading communications parameters.
